Who needs a licence
The rule applies to every Burnaby dog over four months old. The household limit is three dogs. A licence helps staff return a lost dog and records ownership.
Keep the numbered City tag fastened to the collar. An unlicensed dog can lead to a ticket or impoundment.
Register, renew or replace
My Property Portal handles new registrations, renewals and replacement tags. For a renewal, use the account number and access code printed at the top right of the annual notice.
New and replacement tags normally arrive by mail five to seven business days after the application reaches the City. Mail applications with the correct form and cheque to Licensing, 4949 Canada Way, Burnaby BC V5G 1M2.
Fees and payment
The posted annual fee for a spayed or neutered dog is $36 by March 2, or $49 after March 2. An unaltered dog costs $70 or $84. These are the rates shown when checked in October 2026.
A replacement tag costs $9. A transfer to a new owner or replacement dog costs $16. Credit card payments carry a non-refundable 1.8% fee.
If a dog is spayed or neutered after an unaltered licence was paid, submit the certificate. An eligible adjustment becomes account credit for renewal, rather than a cash refund. Call Licensing at 604-294-7320.
