Burnaby Village Museum this fall: Halloween and festive dates are different

An October scare evening and a free festive-lights walk are two different visits to Burnaby Village Museum. Haunted Village has paid entry on selected October dates; Festive Village begins November 25 with free gate admission. The carousel is a separate seasonal choice and does not run during Haunted Village.

What to know before setting out

The hours page lists Haunted Village October 23-25 and October 30-31, 4-9 pm. The Halloween event page describes trick-or-treating on October 31 only. Going on another evening should not come with that promise.

Festive Village begins November 25. Its detailed early-season schedule is Wednesday to Sunday, 2-9 pm, through December 13. December 24 and 25 are closed. For later December dates, use the date-specific event calendar: the page’s broad Monday-Tuesday closure label conflicts with its later daily-opening block, so this guide does not promise a particular later Monday or Tuesday.

Free festive gate admission does not include carousel rides or food. Carousel tickets are listed at $2.86 plus tax. Entry can be limited when the site is full and parking is limited, so transit or an early visit can make the plan simpler.

Haunted Village has advance and same-day prices

The museum lists advance adults at $12 and children aged 2-12 at $7. Same-day admission is listed at $15 and $10 respectively, with children under two free. Tickets can be bought online or at the gate, subject to availability. Choose the date before paying and use checkout for the final total.

Before you leave

  • Choose Halloween scares or a later festive visit.
  • Use the date-specific schedule, not summer hours.
  • Buy the appropriate Haunted Village ticket if that is the plan.
  • Do not promise a carousel ride on a Halloween visit.

Free entry was the attraction, parking was the catch

A December 2025 memory post loved Christmas at the village. The feeling is personal, while the useful 2026 decision is choosing the right event and date rather than arriving during a seasonal closure.

A December 2024 question about free places for toddlers drew a popular recommendation for the museum's Christmas decorations. In a separate lights discussion that month, readers liked the walking experience but one warned that parking filled quickly. The museum suited a visit on foot through displays, not a drive-by lights route or a promise of free play every day.

That distinction carries into planning this year. A free festive gate does not mean every activity is free, and the museum is not continuously open between seasonal events. A parent seeking a regular indoor toddler programme needs a different plan from a family choosing one evening among the village lights.

Choose the season you actually want

A family looking for lights and a carousel ride should not book the Halloween event expecting the same experience. A group wanting spooky displays should choose the actual October programme. Explain the difference before inviting people and include paid extras in the plan. The site is open-air, so an indoor-style evening outfit may be uncomfortable even when the event includes warm drinks for sale.

Put the event name beside the date

For October, the relevant event is Haunted Village on October 23-25 and 30-31, from 4-9 pm. It has paid admission, the carousel is not operating for that event, and trick-or-treating is listed for October 31 only. Buying a ticket for another date should not create an expectation of that particular activity.

Festive Village is a separate season beginning November 25. Gate admission is free, while carousel rides are $2.86 plus tax. The posted calendar changes in December and includes Christmas Eve and Christmas Day closures, so use the date-specific calendar rather than the simple weekly summary. For a family keeping costs down, decide in advance whether a carousel ride and food are part of the plan. Free entry is still helpful, but it is only one part of the evening's total.
