Technical Inside Sales Representative - Bypass Division
Company Overview:
Since 2003, Stormtec has been a trusted partner for general contractors, municipalities, industrial facility operators, and environmental consultants across Western Canada. We solve water management challenges with practical, reliable, and environmentally compliant solutions. Our reputation is built on working in our customers' best interest, delivering expert water management programs that keep project sites safe, compliant, and on budget.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a customer-facing Technical Inside Sales Representative to convert inbound Bypass opportunities into profitable work, managing smaller, less-complex projects from inquiry and quotation through follow-up, award, and handoff to Operations. Working with a senior outbound Technical Sales Representative and technical specialists, you will scope, size, and price standard temporary bypass systems, maintain accurate CRM records, and support larger, complex, or higher-risk pursuits through information gathering, commercial materials, internal coordination, and customer discussions. Ideal for a junior seller with strong customer-service skills and technical aptitude, this role develops practical knowledge of pumps, flow, pipe and hose, controls, power, site logistics, and bypass operations while contributing to shared team results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to inbound phone, email, web, and referral opportunities, confirming customer needs, schedules, site conditions, flow requirements, access constraints, and procurement requirements
- Communicate directly with contractors, municipalities, consultants, and other customer stakeholders throughout the opportunity
- Develop practical solution concepts and commercial estimates for standard Bypass scopes, with support from technical specialists and engineers as required
- Prepare, present, and explain quotations, including scope, assumptions, equipment configuration, operating requirements, exclusions, options, and commercial value
- Follow up consistently on open quotations, identify decision timing and competitive position, answer questions, and negotiate within approved authority
- Act as the day-to-day customer contact for assigned smaller and less-complex projects and ensure a professional handoff to Operations after award
- Maintain accurate CRM records, including opportunity value, stage, next step, expected close date, probability, customer interactions, and loss reasons
- Support the senior Bypass Technical Sales Representative on larger or more complex opportunities by gathering project information, preparing commercial materials, and coordinating internal inputs
- Review drawings, specifications, site information, and technical recommendations to identify scope, assumptions, gaps, and risks
- Size and price standard Bypass packages using approved estimating tools, rates, system configurations, and pricing guidance
- Obtain approvals for non-standard configurations, unusual risks, discounts, low-margin work, contractual deviations, and commercial exceptions, and work with Operations to ensure commitments are safe and executable
- Build practical knowledge of Bypass equipment, temporary pumping configurations, flow concepts, site logistics, safety requirements, and operational constraints through project exposure and team learning
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or an adjacent technical credential.
- Strong customer communication skills by phone, email, and in person, with the confidence to ask useful questions and follow up for a decision.
- Technical aptitude and an interest in learning mechanical equipment, construction operations, temporary pumping, and water-management services.
- Comfort working with numbers, quantities, pricing, Excel-based tools, and structured quotation processes.
- Organized and reliable in a fast-moving environment with multiple active opportunities and deadline-driven customer requests.
- Ability to read and learn from drawings, scopes, schedules, and tender documents with training and support.
Preferred
- Experience with pumps, pipe, hose, equipment rental, civil construction, utilities, municipal infrastructure, dewatering, bypass pumping, or related field services.
- Experience preparing quotations, coordinating projects, or supporting technical sales teams.
- Experience using CRM, ERP, or quoting systems.
- Post-secondary education or training in business, construction, engineering technology, environmental technology, or a related discipline.

- Prepare and manage standard quotations within delegated authority, with clear scope, assumptions, pricing, and required approvals.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, consistent customer follow-up, and clear next steps across the assigned opportunity portfolio.
